1. What Squid Gateway is
Squid Gateway lets API providers put a paid gateway in front of an API they already run. AI agents call the gateway, pay per request in USDC using the open x402 protocol, and the gateway forwards paid requests to the provider's API.
Squid is non-custodial. Payments settle on-chain directly from the agent's wallet to the provider's payout wallet. Squid never holds, pools or transmits customer funds, and has no balance for you to withdraw. Squid is not a bank, credit union or deposit-taking institution.
2. Private beta
- Squid Gateway is in private beta. Access may be limited, changed or withdrawn at our discretion.
- Gateway runs live: payments are real USDC on supported mainnets (currently Base, Polygon, Avalanche and Arbitrum), settle on-chain right away and cannot be reversed. Test transactions run only in local development.
- Features may change, be unavailable, or have their data reset. There is no service-level agreement during beta.
3. Accounts and teams
- You must be at least 18 (or the age of majority where you live) and able to form a binding contract.
- If you use Gateway for a company, you confirm you are authorized to bind it to these Terms.
- You are responsible for activity under your account, your team members and your API keys. Keep credentials and keys secret.
- Workspace owners and admins are responsible for who they invite and the role they grant.
4. Your responsibilities as a provider
When you list an API, you confirm and agree that:
- You own the API or have the rights to resell access to it, including under the terms of any upstream service it relies on.
- Your descriptions, endpoints and prices are accurate, and your API is lawful and doesn't infringe anyone's rights.
- You are responsible for your API's responses, availability, data handling, and compliance with laws that apply to you (including consumer protection, sanctions, export controls and tax).
- You will not list APIs that facilitate fraud, malware, harassment, sexual content involving minors, unlawful surveillance, or other illegal activity.
- You provide upstream credentials at your own risk; we store them encrypted and use them only to forward paid requests.
5. Payments, pricing and refunds
- Prices are set by providers per request, in USDC. Agents are charged only when the provider's API returns a successful (2xx) response.
- Payments are blockchain transactions processed by an x402 facilitator. On-chain transactions are irreversible. You are responsible for using a payout address you control on the right network; funds sent to a wrong address can't be recovered by Squid.
- Network fees, if any, are determined by the blockchain and facilitator, not by Squid.
- Refunds are made by the provider from their own wallet. Gateway records and verifies refunds but cannot reverse or initiate payments.
- Free trial calls offered by providers are not settled and carry no charge.
- Squid charges no platform fee during the beta. We will give notice before introducing any fee.
- You are responsible for your own taxes and accounting.
6. Agents and API consumers
- If you call Gateway endpoints, you pay the advertised price from a wallet you control and accept the provider's own terms for its API.
- The Squid Gateway MCP server for agents signs payments with your key, on your machine, within limits you set. You are responsible for that key and those limits.
- Squid does not guarantee the accuracy, quality or availability of any provider's API.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Gateway for fraud, money laundering, sanctions evasion or other illegal activity
- Attempt to reach private networks, cloud metadata or other systems through the gateway, or to bypass payment
- Probe, overload or attack our systems, or scrape them abusively
- Upload malware or attempt unauthorized access to accounts, keys or data
- Impersonate Squid or claim a partnership without written permission
8. Suspension and termination
We may pause or remove an API, disable an account, or revoke keys to protect users, comply with law, or respond to abuse or security risks, where possible with notice. You can stop using Gateway at any time and ask us to delete your account at hello@squidbank.xyz.
Payment records needed for accounting or legal obligations may be retained as described in the Privacy Policy.
9. Third-party services
Gateway relies on third parties, including hosting (Vercel), database and authentication (Supabase), x402 facilitators (such as x402.org and Coinbase) and public blockchains. Their services are governed by their own terms, and we are not responsible for their availability or actions.
10. No financial advice
Nothing in Gateway is investment, legal, tax or financial advice. USDC and blockchain networks carry their own risks.
11. Intellectual property
The Squid name, logo, software and site content belong to Squid or its licensors. You keep all rights to your API and its content, and grant us the limited rights needed to list it in the catalog and forward requests to it.
12. Disclaimer of warranties
Gateway is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, and do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Squid will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to Gateway is limited to the greater of the fees you paid to Squid in the 12 months before the claim or one hundred US dollars (USD $100).
14. Indemnity
Providers agree to indemnify Squid against third-party claims arising from their API, its content, or their breach of these Terms or applicable law.
15. Changes and governing law
We may update these Terms; the “Last updated” date changes when we do, and material changes will be notified in the dashboard or by email. Continued use after an update means you accept it.
